Gov. Nikki Haley and the Affordable Care Act

Our Governor, Nikki Haley, posted this statement today on her Facebook page (my response follows):

“South Carolina will NOT expand Medicaid, or participate in any health exchanges. We will not support Pres. Obama's tax increase or job killing agenda.  I WILL do everything I can to get Mitt Romney elected and work to strengthen our Senate so that we can repeal this unAmerican policy aimed at moving our country in the wrong direction.”

Gov. Haley, it is one thing to say you don't like a specific policy.  It is quite another to say that a policy (that passed both houses of Congress, was signed by the President, and upheld by the Supreme Court) is "un-American".  By doing so you imply that anyone who disagrees with your views (and supports the Affordable Care Act) is less of an American than you.

Well, I am a proud patriotic American and will not let you, or anyone with whom I have policy disagreements, call my love of this country into question.  If you want to work to get the act repealed that is your right - have at it.  I will do what I can to keep it in place.  But in doing so, and in working to implement our different agendas, neither of us is any less of an American.
